Unfortunately, it will be at least 2.5 hours to the Ararat River in Mt Airy. That's the closest one. Then the Mitchell River and Stone Mountain State Park.

Checkout the NCWRC site for locations.

Good luck

Sorry Brother,

The best option is unfortainaly still in VA. Virginia stocks from October tutim June. NC oniy stocks in March except for C&R streams. If I were where you are and looking to fly fish 'd look into Roanoke Rapids. It's quite early for the shad but there is likely more acton there than anywhere unless you want to head a bit further east to the OBX. I've not followed the action on the banks this year but the Red Drum action will be ending shortly but it will bring the hopes of a stripper/Rockfish school coming near enough to the shore to catch could become a reality again. Especially if the bunker harvest had decreased in the Chesapeake bay.

Best Wishes for a memorable Thanksgiving with many tight lines resulting in quality fish.
Good luck & Godspeed,
Shawn

If you're not locked in on trout you should stay close to home and try the Eno River. It is a unique river in that there are stretches that have the feel of a mountain stream. There are over 2o species to target from Largemouth and Roanoke bass to various bream, gar, carp, and perch. Some of the better stretches are in Hillsborough, Cole's Mill, and Few's Ford.
Good Luck!
