The day turned out different than planned

I was going to meet up with tarheelfishing88 at Bond park and he texts me that there is ice on the lake in most spots. He than checked another local lake to find the same. So I headed over to Lynn and it was wide open no signs of ice so decided to stay at Lynn versus fishing in limited open water on Bond.

I decided to start a totally different pattern on the lake instead of starting in my favorite point I went to hit a small cove that has produced in the past however never much over 2.5 pounds. Started out with a smaller spinnerbait, same I put on yesterday that yielded a 2.5 pounder further up the lake. Worked the spinner all over the area and decided to give the old senko a try. On the first cast I am working the senko in and about 3 feet from shore, I was actually starting to lift it out for its next try to avoid the sticks and leaves and I see the line just starts moving. No thump but clearly something has grabbed on. At first I was thinking another turtle after my sent but when I set the hook I could tell I had a fish on. Given it hit so close to shore this one was a fighter. It was trying to run under every branch and finally I was able to get it up on shore. The fish really did not like being out of water and really struggled as I got the phone out for the photo and scale out for the weigh. This guy came in just under 2# at 1.96.

I proceeded to work my way up the lake trying spinners, worms and crank, lost my smaller chartreuse red eyed shad, but never was able to get another bite. I never got to my usual point since looked like someone was fishing it and I wanted to get home to catch the end of the football game.

So far this January is producing better numbers than last January however last January yielded the 8.75 and 3 others over 4. This year only one over 4 and all the rest in the 2 - 3 pound range.

I am not complaining just getting a fish in the winter is always a joy but was hoping after having one landed in first 20 minutes it was going to be a multiple fish day.

Until next time which might not happen much this week with the rain forecast.

Few weeks ago at Badin my first one was a 5lb'er at like 10am, I figured it was going to be ON. Ended the day with two total. That's Winter I guess. :D

Nice job getting out there and getting some fish despite the ice!
Hey spidey, you and Lynn have a thing goin on don't you. Seems like you get over to see her every time you have a chance to sneak away...
Fish this rain if you can stand it, the water is going to warm up and they are gonna eat!

Nice work. I am going to have to go out there one day and watch your technique. Mine is not working for me.

I understand, that is why I go to the WF reservoir. Less then 2 mins away. Hiked about 1/2 mile of the unpathed eastern side Saturday for a few hours. Just a texas rigged pumpkin tailed worm. Nothing but didn't go where I wanted because of the distance and time of day maybe next time. I have walked the western side in the dark but with a trail I have been down a few times it's easier.
