Just what it sounds like. A place for everyone to share what's going on with them, general chit chat and a way for us to get to know each other better.

I'll go first...

It's supposed to be lawn mower tune up day but for some reason I'm just in the mood to do it. It's not all that hard and would only take me about an hour, and I have everything I need so that's not an excuse. Apathy...that's the best description.

Other than that, I've got a few other projects to be worked on that sound a bit more fun...like scraping paint...lol

I deleted my post because I thought your post was bogus and I stated that. We get quite a few of those on here.

I see you are our new moderator. Welcome.

I fish usually once a week. Work if I want 2 days a week. Take my wife to the doctor once a week and watch grandchildren 3 days a week.

Right now my back is hurting. I was pushing my boat off the trailer yesterday and must have strained one of the few muscles I have. Lesson learned. Either back it off the trailer with the outboard or tie a rope to it and the trailer and back it in far enough to fully float it.

As for me, Thursday was my mower and boat tune-up day. Fresh oil in both, fresh gas, washed away the pollen (fat lot of good that did), made sure the batteries were at full charge, ran all the electronics, changed the blades, and actually mowed the entire 1 1/2 acres for the first time this year (I am a good multi-tasker——trusting the reader to figure out what piece of equipment goes with which task). Best news—I am now ready to start fishing at least 3 times a week. 5 years into retirement and it is great!

p.s. welcome aboard ncnascarlady!

Hi! I'm your new administrator!

Effective immediately, if you see anything or anyone that looks to be bogus, please report it and avoid conversation with them. Between @ncnascarlady and myself, we'll be actively monitoring all reports.

It's better to give us an opportunity to investigate anything shady than to possibly risk insulting or offending someone.

I appreciate your scrutiny! It's good to know there's sharp eyes about.

If for any reason you need to speak to us directly, feel free to send me or ncnascarlady a private message. I'm sure she won't mind.

Hi Joe!

No worries! I've been so busy helping my in-laws pack up their house to move across the country I forgot to introduce myself so it's on me. It's nice to know there are sharp eyes here.

I shore fish on any one of the lakes I can get to in about an hour from home once a week or so during the spring and fall and try my luck with trout up around the Jacob's Fork area in the summer during catch and eat season. The rest of the week is devoted to taking care of the house and yard, training my dog, keeping my husband motivated to pitch in and herding members on a couple of other forums. Sometimes I even get time to myself in my sewing room! LOL

I fully understand about backs hurting. Mine is wrecked almost beyond the point of repair.

It's lovely to meet you!

Still work full time selling building materials in eastern NC (traveling every county east of Raleigh), giving me ample opportunity to stop and fish 30 minutes to an hour as I go by good bank fishing, piers, surf, etc. I keep my car stocked with tackle, rod/reels, Muck boots, etc. Easing into my late 60’s but will try to keep this going for a few more years - helps me plan my travel schedule. Nice to see so much activity here in the forum. Great idea to initiate this thread, Nascarlady! As for me...former corporate nomad (11 interstate moves in 33 years)...chasing that almighty dollar. I've spent my entire career in pharmaceutical research working for multinational corporations mostly US based but I have worked with a couple of foreign corporate overlords.

Now that I've caught enough of those(dollars) to float the boat for a few years I'm getting ready to back down my work schedule and enjoy life. I readily admit to being a fishing addict. If you take a minute to search you'll see my ongoing thread (Rehab, Day Nine) regarding rehab. I'm not there yet but getting close. Anyway...still working a full schedule but will be having a discussion with my DM today to discuss maybe cutting back to three days a week. To be honest staring into that void called retirement scares the heck out of me and I'm just not sure I'm ready to go without ANY income.

I think a few of the regulars here know me...I've personally fished with @CBower a couple of times. I've had regular conversations with @Chris52 and avidly follow @ice cream man as he puts together the coolest videos and definitely knows the waters of ENC. I fish a lot of the Pamlico, from the sound all the way up to the back of Blounts Creek and pretty much every place in between. I'm also always up for near and off shore. Right now, preparing for that first out-the-inlet (Beaufort) trip with @CBower and young Harrison...hoping to find a bonito or two in mid-April.

Almost got the honey-do list complete....new floating hardwood on the first floor, LVP on the second. I have a beat up cherry tree in the yard to take down at some point and need to finish up the last raised bed in the garden area but otherwise I'm in pretty good shape and ready to fish!

Hope everyone else is ready for the season....shad are currently on fire right now from what I've seen! Tight lines everyone!

Welcome to both new moderators.

Family, work, fishing ... mostly in that order LOL.

Grew up in the mountains (Ashe Co) and live in Raleigh, and I'm rather smitten with eastern NC and saltwater fishing currently.

Looking forward to trying for Bonito with @cbruce41

I have a fishing story y'all might enjoy.

I was about nine or ten when my father took me ice fishing for the first time. This was in northeastern Ohio, but I can't remember the name of the lake at this moment. (My mother will, I'll ask her later.)

Long story short, I thought that the fish were frozen solid on the lake bed, and thawed out on the way up.

Funny how naive we are when we're young!

The Red X Anglers (most of whom have migrated to Face Book and do not frequent this site, have in the past organized 3 or 4 meet and greets per year. There have been camping trips to the foothills/mountains (usually at the Bandits Roost access area at W. Scott Reservoir)—one near Wilmington at Fort Fisher—one east of New Bern on the Bay River (Riverside Campground)—and one down near Charlotte on the Catawba River. They usually attract 35-40 folks. I have been to a couple of these and they are a great way to meet people, and to fish different locations with folks who have some local knowledge.

As mentioned above, it would be great if we could lure them back here. I don’t do Face Book, and never will. Which is why I still hang out here…and over time we have attracted a few new very smart members.

Today was go look at pontoon boats. Didn’t pull the trigger.
Then home to plant onions, potatoes, and lettuces. Not doing the huge garden this year. We’re hoping to travel / camp a bunch this year. Had today off and looking at every other Monday to get out and fish somewhere in the Asheboro area. ... at least until I get my PTO hours down a bunch.

I don't do FB either, but may see if I can stop over there and remind them we're still here and under new management. Or if anyone else wants to let them know, that's fine with me.

I am at this very moment formulating a diabolical plan to infiltrate NC Fishing and Angler's FaceBook groups. Additionally, there's also Reddit and a few other social media platforms that I'm adding to the roster of possible member recruitment locations.

Fingers crossed!
