Some of us old salts still fish the back waters around zip code 28520 without the aid of all those fancy electronic devices with all the bells and whistles. A 12 ft pole can push you off shoals and check water depth. Our fish finder is what we tie on the end of our lines. But we can rely on nature with providing us with fine indicators-- kinda like the wooly worm and the weather. No need to check water temperatures-- trout bite starts when the snakes start swimming. So, based on the number of snakes already out and the SIZE of them, there is going to be a great year for speckled trout in number and size.

I love these backwaters.:D
