nice fish on the fly. i've heard their powerful runs are right up there with a redfish...

i've targeted them in CO on a fly rod never got a hookup though. a big green or brown woolybooger will catch em or a nymph.

I was using a 6 weight rod with a 3X tippet, the fly was a little yellow round egg with red eye size 14. Yes he ran into my backing and the trolling motor was on high.

Over the years I've heard more and more people having success with egg patterns and carp. I still can't get myself to try it. Something about me doesn't think it will work. It obviously does.

You know how spooky they are so the cast is everything, I find that a light cast about 6 ft in front of them (cast to a point about 3 ft above where you want the fly to land and it will float down). The egg doesn't float but will sink at a slow rate. If you haven't spooked it it will pick the egg up, and thennnnn it's fish on so be ready to move.
