Wow - what a beautiful day. I had to work today but I rushed home after work and managed to get the boat in the water for just over an hour of dusk fishing. The water was very clear and calm. I managed to hook up with one small redfish, but didn't even bring him in the boat. I saw plenty of others, they were around the marsh grass (it was flood stage) but they weren't all that interested in eating. Still - it was just nice to be out on the water in great weather, in February to boot!

Fish on!

We've seen some pretty mild weather this winter and if we can make it just a few more weeks without a major freeze things will be looking up for a good year of trout fishing. I guess asking for 4 more just like this one would be a little selfish.:D

I don't think we have had three nights in a row of freezing weather all season. The coldest so far has been 27 but only for one night. It's suppose to dip down to close to that tomorrow night too but only for one night.

Welcome aboard Gene!

You ever fish up around Figure 8? I get down to Masonboro inlet once in while but mostly Figure 8 to Surf City when fishing inshore. I'll keep an eye open for ya. I have an unnamed Maycraft 1900 and monitor channel 72 and use the handle "dog gone".

Rye - yes it seems somewhat unusual for them to be on the grass this time of year but I think cause it's been so warm. Yesterday they were stacked around the inlet shoals like cord wood. I mean a thousand or more of them, nice size ones too! They were biting anything you threw at them as long as you kept your distance. :D

This may be one unbelievable spring if this weather holds up. I'm not sure what effect the cold snap we had last night will have but it is suppose to be back in the 70's by mid-week.

I hear ya on that Gene..... Same here, spent some time myself when I get a chance to work on the boat... still gotta get all the tackle ready for this season.

Hey, if ya ever want to buddy boat out some time out of Wrightsville, let me know.

We're call sign "Size 9" out of Wrightsville/Masonboro monitor Ch's 68/69

Usually fish out around the Esso Nashville area, but think we're gonna try a little further south this season to explore a bit more. Just north east of fryin pan worked great for us last season. On the way out to the first ledges, we found a 700 + ft drop that looked promising

I think I'll make up a sheet with everyones call signs and ch's to keep on the boat

COME ON SPRING!!!

I,m back
Yes I get up at figure 8 and topsail area every once in a while trout and red fishing, sometimes around banks channel and a few selected ditches and creeks,,and used to do alot of shrimping around marker 49 and south to virginia creek but got out of the shrimping about 10 years ago,,always felt bad about the little fish that died in my net and the law on rec. fisherman was getting tough so got rid of shrimp boat and went to rec. fishing and had a ball since but remembering all that the shrimp did and where and the time of year and what ditches and creeks that I caught shrimp made me go back and fish and much more rewarding that I had learned something from all of this ,,,catch a few and release a few and catch a few next time,,,pretty good huh, so the circle of fishing has been good to me and I ,m thankful for that Yes I,ve been up that way quite a bit,,inshore can be great when you can,t get out

Welcome aboard Gene, I fish mostly in spurts but have fished most of the sounds south of Beaufort Inlet with the exception of the area between New River and Bogue Inlet. Surf fished from Duck to Ocean Isle with the same exception and Ocracoke Inlet to Beaufort Inlet. Unfortunately just a limited amount of offshore fishing which is where my main interest lies. If I could afford it I would live offshore and only occasionly visit land. None the less I love poking around the salt marshes whether fishing or just exploring. Lightly used beaches are also right up my alley. I hope to see you up in Hampsteadfishing's fishing grounds or there abouts. That is one of my favorite places. AL

I hear ya Capt Brent! What a difference from Friday night till Saturday - Friday they were on the flats or near the marsh, Saturday they were all schooled up at the inlet. Have you been out since the cold snap on Sunday? I'm going to try and get out Friday & Sat. again and I'm wondering where they are now.

Got out again this afternoon just for a quick trip. You gotta love this weather we have been having! Me and my fishing buddy pulled out a few drum just before the tide went slack. The creek we were fishing was holding a lot of fish for this time of year, we could see them everywhere.
