Heading down to Topsail Island last two weeks of October to surf fish and maybe pier fish if the surf is slow. Any advice where is the best place to go?

October is usually game on for surf fishing in this part of the state. You'll usually find puppy drum, speckled trout, blues and an assortment of other tasty little fish like spot, croaker and the like. First stop should be East Coast Sports in Surf City. Buy a few hooks and sinkers and ask them where to start. If you have 4WD and are willing to pay $100 for a beach driving permit (or $50 for a week), that gives you the best shot for scouting likely spots. If not, then try to get info from EC Sports on some of the more popular spots within walking distance of public parking access points. The points at New Topsail and New River Inlets are always good bets, but you'll also want to scout at low tide to find bars and sloughs. Those are constantly changing though. The piers usually post fishing reports too. Good luck.

You better watch where you park at East Coast sports. Everything in front of that place is paid parking now. Everything in front of the building is now paid parking. There are no meters but there's a nice polite sign in front of the building that most people don't even bother reading. I was one of them..... You have to pay on your phone now. It's an expensive ticket believe me.
