I'm headed out to Idaho next month, and I think rather than struggling with my 9' two piece 5wt for my flight, I am considering getting a cheap rod/reel outfit to travel with. It would also serve the purpose of being a gateway rod for someone who wants to experiment with tossing bugs.

Anyone have experience with this model? Having never fished out in Idaho, I'm thinking a 5wt should be fine for chasing redbands and bows, maybe a few cutthroats. No steel or salmon. I'll swap out the reel for my usual outfit with good line.

The Redington Classic Trout gets good reviews and I have a 5 wt that I like. Can find them on sale for $75 - $100, good budget fly rods.

cmckearney beat me to it. cabelas.
