I have a Motor Guide Bill Dance bow mount trolling motor with a cable foot control. I believe the gears in the top are worn. At least in some places. Has anyone pulled the top apart to replace the gearing?

Nope, not much in there. What they call the rack that connects to the foot cable and then the pinion on the shaft. And a couple bushings. Might take the chance while in there to change that light in there to an LED.

Oh happy day.

I broke into the top and determined the pinion set screw was loose. I fiddled with the alignment and tightened it down. All is good with direction control now. Joy....

I did find the pinion and rack are brass and not plastic. No wear there at all.
