There's a hatch happenin. Spring is finally here and today, I witnessed many trout rising to very tiny midges on the Elk River in Banner Elk NC. I'd say #22 or #24 would do the trick. It should be a fantastic opening weekend...if you get up early. Late sleepers will be fishing someone elses backwash.

Dad invited me to come trout fishing in Cherokee this weekend, but we had already planned a trip to the coast. Maybe he'll get into 'em. He goes up there to chase the trout in the reservation stream during the day and play slots in the reservation casino at night.

Keep us posted if you get a chance to go.

Hookeye,
By the looks of the pictures in the albums, it looks like you found out where the fish were and the crowd wasn't. Nice work.

I sat out opening day due to the crowds that redfishtom mentioned. I drove past some streams that had a couple people in each hole. I didn't have time to get to any wild or C&R water. I look forward to some wild streams this summer; and some more trout posts on here. Trout reports have died off for the past few months. Are most of you only fishing hatchery supported and delayed harvest when you can keep them?

I don't keep fish, but if you want to catch larger trout go to the delayed harvest. Two weeks ago I caught 4 that were around 20 inches. all the large fish I caught were rainbows but I also caught a bunch of brookies. all put up a good fight and most were leapers. I also tend to try to work on a saturday so i can get a week day off to avoid other people. call me anti social I guess:mad:
