Tying bucktails for jigs

4999 Views 9 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Dave1273
Hi guys. I've got a bunch of jigs that were ordered without bucktails by mistake. I'd like to learn how to tie bucktails on them. Any links to a good tutorial on this or any tips anyone would like to share on what materials are needed, where to purchase them and how to do it? Any help is most appreciated. I want to stock up on bucktails for striper fishing next season. :)

Randy - I'm sure you will enjoy fishing with bucktails you make yourself - I do.

I sometimes use bucktails given to me by local hunters but usually I buy mine. The best source I have found for a large selection of very high quality bucktail material is Barlow's Tackle.

I'm headed out the door but when I get back on Friday, I'll send you some pics and further info.

For crappie and smallmouth we mostly tie all our jigs. Even pour our own lead.
Randy, one night when you are bored, take a ride to my house and I will teach you how to do it.

A good friend taught me how to make my own and I have not bought a bucktail since.

There is supreme satisfaction in catching a fish with a lure YOU made.

I buy my heads from Tim at TNT Tackle Online.

I buy all my other stuff from Stamina.

Buy 10 at a time and save some dough.

Go to the local Hobby store and buy some CA super thin glue. It wicks very well.

Come to the house with your camera and we will make an article.

I can hardly wait for the article. I'd love to know how to tie these myself.
