I’ve never fished the lower cape fear marsh behind Ft Fisher. I believe there is some wadeable skinny water there and I thought I’d take the fly rod and see what I could get into.

Can I wade it?
Should I approach by boat? Walk in?

Almost any other suggestions welcome.

And the soft, mucky, deep holes that reach up and grab you outta nowhere. Never seen anybody wading, just bait netting from rare solid bottom. Not saying you can't wade it with caution though. Good luck.

What he said. The soft bottom will be a problem worth considering. Tow a kayak behind you for safety.....ICM

Appreciate all the replies fellas. I guess being that close to the river the soft bottom makes sense.

Nothing worse than wading in muck.

Except getting stuck in muck.

Except getting stuck in muck and having an interested gator.

Or falling in a hole in cold water.
