Re: Want Your Opinion

Hey Pier Dweller. Great idea. That is what I created the chat room for. I've done a poll on another site and it appeared that Sunday night was of the most interest. We could start a poll here to see what interest there is for certain nights of the week if you like.

It might be a good idea to consider a "Saltwater fishing" chat on one night, "Freshwater fishing" on another, "Fly fishing" on another. What do you think? Of Maybe to schedule chats on specific species of fish for certain days of the month?

Jump in here folks and let's talk fishing!

NCangler,

I agree with you on having a different subject on each night. I figure you're the best person to choose what goes where. Or, start a poll as you said. I personally like the 7 to 10PM time frame, but, I'm flexible.
Look forward to chatting with you folks.

Good idea!! My only problem is that I type so slow that subject will probably change three times before I can get a remark posted.

Re: Want Your Opinion

Okay, I added a poll about the best night to schedule a member chat. You can vote for multiple nights if you wish. Just so everyone understands, you are not committing to being a part of this and you can pop in and out at your leisure during the chat time. Times listed are Eastern US time, but of course the chat rooms are available to members 24/7, so if you ever want to join an online fishing buddy in a chat just email or send them a PM (Private Message) inviting them to join you there.

There are currently six permanent chat rooms setup in addition to "The Dock" where you enter the chat room:
  • Saltwater Fishing
  • Freshwater Fishing
  • Fly-Fishing
  • Kayak Fishing
  • Tackle Talk
  • Boat Chat
You can choose which room you wish to enter by using the drop down box beside "Room" and under the "Welcome username". You can add a new temporary chat room by clicking the "Add" button and selecting whether you want this to be a "Public" or "Private" room. "Public" chats are available to anyone who enters the room. If you want to hold a "Private" chat with one or more fishing friends, choose "Private" then invite them to join you as they enter the Dock.

If you have any questions about using the Chat Rooms please don't hesitate to email or PM me. Remember the same code of conduct applies in the chat as does for the whole site:

This is a family site. Posting of risque or pornographic images, the use of profanity or vulgar language will be grounds for immediate removal of the material and banning of the user responsible. We reserve the right to edit or delete posts in keeping with this policy.

Young eyes as well as our wives and daughters may be watching and it is my desire that this site be a comfortable place for all. :)

Re: Want Your Opinion

Looks like Wednesday nights wins out in the poll. Whatever your angling interest is, consider hosting a chat session at a certain time and date and make an announcement in the appropriate forum.

If anyone needs direction on how to use the chat program just email me at [email protected] and I'll be glad to send you some basic instructions. It is pretty straight forward though. So jump in and give it a try. You can even type in some message when no one else is there just to figure out how it works. Just be sure to click on the red button in the upper right hand corner when you're ready to leave. That logs you out of the chat so your username doesn't stay logged in on the main page under "In Chatrooms".

The start/end time totally depends on who is online and how long they wish to stay on. I really need someone to volunteer to host this as I am not able to always be online. Hosting would simply be a matter of posting a time that you will be online in the chat room, designating a room to be in, having the chat window open and chatting. This is a very relaxed format for folks to communicate about fishing here. It may be difficult if too many folks are chatting at once, in which case some folks may want to move to separate chat rooms. Members can always create temporary chat rooms while online and invite others to join them there. Have fun! ;)

Sorry, I couldn't make it tonight. Topsail Angler is hosting a chat session Sunday night though. I think the best way to organize this is for someone to announce that they will host it on a particular night during a certain time. Then whomever can be there can join in. We can use the "Fish Tales & General Threads" forum to make the announcements.

This is a good thing and I am looking forward to it. I was just talking to a friend this morning about this site and he asked if we had a chat room. I told him yes, but that did not seem to be any structure as to who, when, and where. Now this is more like it. You guys are so smart!

Slowriser, you can see from the last post before yours that our last organized attempt at a group chat session was a few months back. I think the best way to work the chat rooms is for someone to start a thread and say we'll be talking about such and such on this night at this time and then let folks committ or showup. if you get more than a handful of folks going in the same room it can be hard to follow, but there are multiple rooms that folks can break out to and you can create a temporary room and make it public or private and then invite specific members to join you there. The software is really pretty cool. You'll just have to play with it a bit to figure everything out. You can't break anything though (I don't think!) so have at it. ;) Somebody pick a topic, a night and a time and create a thread about it.

I advertized and opened a chat room on Sunday nights for about a month but not many folks particpated. Not sure if it was just a bad time or what. I'll be happy to host a saltwater or general chat session again if there is enough interest.

I'm like Forrest, I get left way behind in the typing department. Sat. evenings I'm usually fighting to stay awake. Sun. is pretty much the same. I've got a sleep study scheduled soon so maybe that will improve soon. I doubt the typing will improve much though.
