Made it out with fellow DNRB Allen Heath this evening to mess around in the river a hour or two before dark, and it was a slaughter. Not expecting the epicness that went down at all. We caught stripes one cast after another, on little pieces of balsa wood that walk like a dog, just about every cast for better part of an hour. Fished into the dark and left them hungry for more. Needless to say I'm feeding them wood and hooks at 0530 in the a.m. The lite NE wind and willing fish is I hope good juju for the weekend to come. Gonna head down river to look for giant goldfish and maybe put in a couple hours looking for the MIA spotted silver sides. You know, the ones with the fangs that may have nearly gone extinct in the Neuse last February. Either way, good start for Dem Neuse River Boys. Biggest fish were touching 27"s and every size in between.
