I recently took a crankbait that runs 4 to 5 feet and added enough lead strips to where the bait now slowly sinks. If I allow the bait to sink, to say 20 feet, and begin retrieve, will the bait stay and run at that depth, or will it return to the manufacturer's designed depth range?

It will continue to sink until the new buoyancy coefficient is met.

Thanks for your reply. In layman's terms, does that mean it stays around 20 feet or rises back to 4 or 5 feet?

It means it will be 20ish feet

It will reach some sort of equilibrium. It won't be 5-6' but if you let it fall to 50' it wont stay there. It will rise to maybe 20' maybe 15' depending on the amount of weight. Its all about forces reaching equilibrium and the angle.

Heard back from Strike King customer service earlier. Message from them stated bait will run for a bit at the deeper depth, and of course will rise as it nears its origin point, i.e. boat or bank. Thanks for contributions.....
