Well weird to me anyway. Three times in the last two weeks, big bass have hit my catfish rig on the bottom hard. I only landed two of them. I assume the circle C hook is not the easiest for the bass to set his self. I find this weird because the bass are hitting the rig on the bottom and shooting straight up and out of the water. So I always think its a catfish until it breaks water. I'm not complaining by no means, but is this normal? I've added a pic of the one I caught yesterday out of Mckellers pond.
If there is any current there, maybe the bait flutters around in the current and looks alive enough to eat? We used to fish for catfish with hotdogs and would catch a bass every now and then.
I've caught plenty of bass fishing for redfish down in FL in brackish water on cutbait... Never was a big fan of circle hooks for anything but catfish and grouper though.
Pond bass are more likely to grab anything they know they can eat. I've caught LMB in ponds before on chicken livers.. I assume this is because of the variations or scarceness of food at times.
Thanks for this feedback. It's just frustrating cause when I wanna catch bass at Mckellers, I can't. I've been bank fishing though and the bass are probably out way deeper. Guess I'll have to throw the yak in.
