Haven't seen any blog posts from our Jordan Striper Guides lately. You guys too busy catching fish to make it back to the computer & tell us about it?

Curious to know if there is a "slow" period for guiding on inland waters. I hear that the striper fishing is good/better in the cold water, but does that mean all winter long or just during the transition period from fall into winter?

December and January to date have been real good. Troy has had some great trips lately and I have been tied up with holidays and club events.

We will get back to posting very soon.

This cold weather will slow them down for sure, but that means it will be crappie time!

I have been fishing at jordan on a weekly basis off the dock and havnt seen to many fish caught ive had some catfish on night crawlers one nice one around 8 lbs it was a blue catfish and the Christmas week i watched the stripers mugging somthing on the other side of the lake the bass were in an area of about 100 foot around blowing up water all over looked like they were in a frenzy i have never saw that in fresh water only in saltwater. as for crappie i couldnt catch one if it was in a bucket these fish just seem to elude me good luck

Which dock do you fish? The only one I know of is Bell's Church... I've been thinking abt taking my boy out there sometime...

Thanks Capt. Steve. Is there a hard & fast date that you switch over from stripers to crappie? If so, when do you switch back?

bells church is the only dock it is pretty nice not many people there during the day but at night its crowded. if your looking for other spots to fish go to the north carolina wildlife resource site it lists lakes and ponds with directions to and picturesof the dock or shorelines

I never got anything to bite at Bell's Church either; interested in what you're doing and how it's working...

jordan has been hot with live bait fishing around 15 to 24 feet deep.alot of fish caught in the 10 to 15 lb range. lately the fish have been hitting aroung the mouth of beaver creek and back behind the white ball.there were fish caught all over the lake.the fish are also hitting some small bucktails being trolled really slow.

Where's "the white ball"? Don't have my map in front of me, but I know Beaver Creek is on it... east of Crosswinds, maybe? Don't recall seeing or hearing about "the white ball" before....

well if you put in at ebeneezer boat ramp all you have to do is go strainght across the lake and look out on the water and its a big white ball floating on the lake.also alot of fish have been caught just all over the lake so you dont really know where they will show up at.

where are the other two pfa's there is bells and one a few miles up the road but where else .
as for the dock ive been using wallmart nightcrawlers [can not beat the price] on the bottom around the channel marker straight out from the dock. hook two on a 1/0 baitholder hook on the bottom sit and waitsome nice catfish down there good luck

The piedmont PFAs are listed here: North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission

• The first on their list is Bell's Church.
• The second is on the northwest side of the lake, a couple of miles North of 64 on Big Woods Rd (which is where the forest service facility is.
• The third is south of the Ebenezer Church ramp, on the southeast side of the lake.

Bells Church is the only one that's "developed" - the other two are just a NCWildlife sign and a little bit of room to park. No docks, nothing. The third one has an abandoned boat ramp which would be perfectly adequate for a canoe/kayak launch. It seems that this one should see very little fishing pressure -- even on GoogleEarth I can't tell how it's connected to the rest of the lake...

As for walmart nightcrawlers -- I just found a convenience store halfway between my house and walmart that sells 'em too... as long as they're alive, that sounds even better!

It all depends on water temp. February, March and April are prime crappie months. Pre-spawn, spawn, and post spawn are always hot times to crappie fish.

I'm not saying you can't catch stripers in these months because you can and they will be quality fish, just not many of them.

Typically, I don't fish much in January. February, I start crappie hunting. Late February, the stripers will start moving around again.

March is prime crappie time and the stripers will start being more aggressive as well.

Early April is still hot for crappie and the stripers start their fake spawn.

Again, everything depends on the water temp.

You might want to consider joining the Jordan Lake Striper Club. A lot of good folks with a good mission.

Lefty, I'm new to the board, I fished Jordan on the 23rd and caught 3. Caught 1 at Parkers creek about 6lbs, livebaiting down about 20ft. Caught 2 more at the white ball, 1 about 7 lbs. and another one about 12.5 lbs. Had several other pull downs, but the hook didn't set. Hope this helps out some. I fish Jordan most every monday or tuesday, so I'll let ya'll know more later.

for those of you who have fresh water striper experiance . does anyone use live eels for bait ,all my time was spent on the saltwater striper fishing this fresh water stuff is all new to me,the way the bait is rigged and hook sizes are different it seems that i have to relearn how to fish .thanks for the time

Several guys have tried eels with no success. I guess the landlocked fish don't know what they are. Shad and artificial is pretty much the standard. Just like saltwater stripers, mimic the bait they are feeding on.

When I go to Weldon, I use artificials that mimic sand eels. They love 'em.

Zoom Salty Super Fluke, white; gray metal flake; and chartreuse on a 3/8 oz jig head will git-r-done.

Corner of Cary Pkway and Lake Pine -- they apparently keep two or three tubs of nightcrawlers for the patrons of Apex Lake Park. Hang a right, there's a soda cooler, look way down at the bottom.

the nightcrawlers from wallyworld are 2 dzn. to the container at like 2.50 a container i will buy 2 or3 and put them in the fridge in the gararge they keep for weeks. the other place i get bait is at the gas station on the corner of 64 and the road that the bells church dock is on there i get minnows if i feel lucky .
