I have read thru the searched info,
But I am curious as to what's going on there as of recent.

Also what type of bottom am I gonna encounter.

Looks like a great C-rig lake. Plenty of long main lake points and humps.

So let's talk about Wheeler with out giving up too much info.

variable. there is quite a bit of bare bottom but the banks are littered with laydowns. several of those long points have rock faces and will give up some fish. Healthy shad population and the bass will most likely gorge themselves post spawn hint hint - tough lake to fish but when you figure them out there are some monsters in there. good luck

I need to try it again sometime; I am very close to it and used to go there from time to time several years ago before the Cary sewage incident. I did okay but never got a monster. But I was mostly fishing for crappie. It's been about 8 years since the spill; I should try it again.

Used to fish it years ago a lot in my bass craze days.
It is one of those lakes where you can fish down a bank and not get a bite and someone come right behind you pulling fish.
There is a nice hump on the northern side of the dam out in open lake. That I used to Carolina rig and rattletrap fish off of.

Another spot I used to rattletrap nice fish off was about 50 yards out from the old starters tower if that is still there.
