Why must it always close.

I think its a shame we cant all get along and have a good discussion without a thread always getting closed. I dont blame the MODS for doing their job, I blame us as a group of adults who cant make legitimate comments and have an adult conversation (occasional humor is fine but no attacks on others).

Yes Im refering to red drum cant jump. Maybe in the wrong thread but I think I asked challenger a legitimate question, because I want to know not because I am trying to put anyone down.

You may have noticed my comments here have decreased 500% this past year. I watch I read I learn, then it closes.
such a shame

People differ. Disagreements will happen. The question you asked Challenger was legitimate, I agree. If you referring to my response with 3 awesome photos of jumping fish. It was all in fun at that point.

IMHO I think people get carried away with a simple disagreement, at some point we all need to be put in our place. Some people can realize they deserved it and roll along and some cant. Arrogance, disrespect and extreme ridicule on folks who are getting started especially should have a zero tolerance from everyone here regardless of status.

I'm with you 100% Tim! It's one thing to disagree over issues, even to strongly disagree, but the personal attacks are totally uncalled for. We can find ample venues for that sort of thing in other places, but until lately those were rare here. This has been one of the most friendly and helpful communities I've ever been part of. A real shame that it's becoming infected by the snarling and feuding that appears to be the norm in most other places.
Hope it turns around soon .. I'd hate to lose your input or that of any other member.

I think in this case Tim you just hit a sore spot. The topic had already gotten too heated before you jumped in.

I think too many get closed for too little but who am I?
Normal in person conversations stray off and on topic. They will on this form of media as well.

There are a few people here I notice have real thin skin. I don't understand that in a man. Never will.

There is a fine line on both the "customer" side and the admin side as well. Some folks are good at walking up on the edge, some are not.

I definitely don't have the most fishing experiences, but whether I have or have not, I am not going to tell someone they haven't seen something that IMHO they may or may not have seen. The way I feel about things like that is, if they do happen to be wrong, they will know it at a later time, and if they are right, I haven't made them feel badly about themselves, and the way they feel about others.

"There are a few people here I notice have real thin skin. I don't understand that in a man. Never will."

I think those of us who are a little prone to temper (I know I'm not alone) might benefit from liberal use of the Ignore List (Forum Actions, General Settings, Edit Ignore List) since it only takes a couple of trolling comments (see classic example above) to start a fight. The basis of that theory is it's OK for him to say something critical of you because it doesn't hurt his feelings when you say something critical of him (If you're thin-skinned, that's your problem). I thought this might be a good time to test that hypothesis...

I've already got a couple people on my ignore list on the theory that if I don't read what they say, they can't p### me off (in at least one case, because most of his comments add nothing of substance to the discussion). Based on the last couple of days, I will probably add a couple more...

Meet Mr. Make it personal.
You always do.
I'm so very sorry we disagree on so much that it has to come to such from you.

Oh greatness that owns a place on the muddy river please forgive me.

Yea, the ignore list is a good feature. I'm here to tell you personally, if you have a problem with me put me on that list. Just don't pop me on and off that list to get a jab in here and there......like some do.

This is a website. This is entertainment. How do you allow yourself to get so wound up in front of a computer monitor?

Normally when someone directs a post at me or to me I reply. You don't?
Or were you just daring that I reply or trying to use me as an example for some point you were trying to make?

Grow up.

There isn't a soul on this site I couldn't drink a beer with or fish with whether I agree with you or not. Some folks have the idea that if you don't agree with someone you have to become mortal enemies.
That is beyond childish.

Those that actually have met me can steer you on the correct path without question.

And I am the one making it personal, clueless? You are the one that starts the attacks, then cries in your milk about it later. Just where exactly is this thick skin you speak of?

If you will go through my posts you will be hard pressed to find me making anything personal. You on the other
hand are a different story when it comes to myself...because we have some differences on certain issues. Hardly a reason to "have it in for someone". Someone so close you haven't bothered to meet first. Anybody here is welcome down at the shop including you. Refreshments , adult in nature or ice cream is on me. Like I said, I don't have a problem with anybody here whether we agree or disagree on any subject. I'm not that type of person. I don't hold grudges, especially with anything that comes out of this form of media.
Come on down. Tinkering on the boat, making a few pulley rigs for someone, and making myself a few drum rigs.
Got the fans going and the beer flowing.
And I just polished to a mirror finish an aluminum sand spike. If they aint bitin I'll blind em.

We have established that red fish can in fact jump, arrogance is ugly, skin comes in not only colors but thickness, some people can't have a discussion without condemning another's opinions, some feel more blessed than others with their location, experience, etc. and feel it gives them clout to rule on high.
I know a little, about a lot, I share my opinions as fact because to me, they are, in my experience, proven fact. I share what I know, what I hear that makes sense to me, and what I speculate as reasonable so that others can come to their own conclusions. What I say may or may not apply to your situation, and when I am proven wrong I adjust what I know, what I believe and what I choose to believe based on my experience and your input. I have no problem admitting when I am wrong, and no problem telling you if I think you are. I can have a heated conversation, cuss you under my breath and get past it and share the table with you. I think too many people grow up being tribalized by religion, sports and fan clubs until they can't look at anyone who doesn't think like they do with anything but loathing.
Get over it. I will work on doing so as well. Now lets fish..
