On this site for ANYTHING other than the Beetle Spin which has been taunting me since January....

I am the only man in north America who has tried beetle spins with ZERO success despite many hours of efforts.... just seeing that smug review from the otherwise kindly-as-a-saint dbeam tortures me.

Help!

I agree Bettle Spins are worthless. Try a Mr. Twister Spin. Roadrunners are also the biggest myth ever. They never work.

I am up for that. It's a got to lure for me. I put different plastic on mine. The standard split tail doesn't have much action. Oh no, did I spill a secret???

Where I have been white perch fishing we have been hooking and also landing some nice bass and cats. Either via beetle spin or with the same grub on an equivalent sized jig. When I say hooking. A big issue is hook set. I use a light rod with 6# and my UL has 4#. My percentage of hook ups is going up though. If I think I have something good on I started setting the hook a couple times. By then the line is good and tight. I found that the cats and bass hit it on the way down allot.

I have not had much luck with the inline spinners on the lakes. But I found the river fish like them. I can't tell you how many smallies I caught on a Mepps Aglia Long 2 over the years. And a Mepps Minnow from size 1 - 4.

I'm a roostertail fan. Caught 10 fish Sunday, 6 species, from a friend's yard on a small lake in the space of an hour or so. Mostly small things, the LMB bass and catfish were the biggest at 1-2 pounds.

Bigger fish like the 1/4 oz size but I tend to throw the 1/8-1/16 targeting panfish. Once I find them, the LMB are often within 10 feet near cover/structure waiting for the next meal. I've also landed plenty of bigger fish that hit my search lure. Four pound bass on a 5 foot UL is fun.

Jimmy Houston still throws the Roadrunner and still goes "he-he-hee" and still kisses fish. OW must have thrown Beetle Spins. Johnson makes an improved Beetle Spin type lure now, called the Spin R Bait. They also make a Roadrunner type bait that has a ball bearing swivel above the blade. Much better than the Roadrunner, IMO.

caught 2 6 plus bass on a 1/32 ox beetle sping in my life....1st was 6-1 and i cant remember the exact weight of the 2nd but it was over 6..............count countless 5 plus lbers on the big beetle spins

When did Roostertails go down in quality? I fished them a lot as a kid but the current crop don't seem as good. Panther Martins and Mepps are what I have now.

I hate to break the news but more fish have been caught on a Shyster spinner than all others combined.

the blade is the problem with the RT....just got to know how to adjust them . there is also one that is a super lure.........
