Winter channel cats

I've been chasing channels in small ponds and on the Cape fear in a kayak all year. Got decent at finding their holes and dropping a bait on their heads in ponds and finding their holes on the river.

Now I've got a request to get some filets in the fryer this weekend and I don't have a two person boat. So if you were gonna pick off some cats from the bank this weekend where and when and how? If anyone wants to shoot me a PM with their super secret spot near aberdeen I promise I'll leave a few in there when I'm done and next time around bait is on me.

Thanks guy

I cant be specific because I don't know your area. I do know as the water gets colder scent is more important and travels less distance so stronger scents work better.

I'd go to the Largest lake in your area- find a long point extending out into the lake and take at least 3 rods and fish all around that point. Chicken livers, shad, shrimp would be my bait.

We've always had luck on most of the same baits in winter as we do in the warmer months. We seem to do better in the day time in the colder months though.....
Try tailrace fishing below a dam in your area. If the turbines are running, the shad are running, which mean the catfish are feeding. Hope this helps some.
