Has the water warmed up enough for surface lures to be effective? Is there a rule of thumb for when they'll work? I'm fishing Lake James, Lure, Adger and lots of smaller water. Surface temp is in the low 60's. - Thanks.

Nope.

I have heard they are catching fish 10-20 feet deep at Lake Lure, shallower for black crappie.

You might get some pre spawn white bass at Lake Adger on the surface though. They should be moving towards the river if not there right now.

There was some topwater activity this morning in the Piedmont but I would be skeptical that it would be starting in the mountains just yet.
