Hi all, decided to start a thread instead of hijacking the old thread I resurrected.
The last couple weeks here, I've become downright obsessed with pulling in a Cobia from the kayak, and am interested in exploring some options to make this doable. I'm aware of the regs (season, size, and limit), how cobia go crazy near and on the boat, and a lot of the gear necessary to make it go down, so getting into the nitty gritty on that stuff might be redundant. However if you can think of something off the wall to add to the list, please do!
What I'm interested in is input from any of you bad fellas who have caught cobia from a kayak (or small boat) and how you handled it logistically and organizationally - how many rods, what did you keep closest in case of emergency, etc. Quest4reds recommended having some length measured on the side of the kayak so I could verify the length of the fish before bludgeoning it and gaffing it in, which I plan on taking into account. Also, if it came down to it being too short, would I continue to wear it down, throw a towel over it, then boat it and remove the hook without use of gaff or hammer? Just some things I'd like to have thought out before May 1.
I appreciate the input!
