Zonkers

I have been checking out some Zonkers on Youtube and seen some awesome looking ties. I ordered some materials and crafted up a few for chasing red drum and speckled trout.

These are tied on a Mustad #2 hook, chartreuse/black or pink/black zonker strip, Fish Skull plastic head and Fish Skull living eyes. Still a work in progress as I figure out some more of the tying process on these.

Very nice Scott I can;t see any reason those shouldn't work they look like they would be killer on LMB as well.

Scott, where did you end up getting your multi colored zonker strips, and your soft fish skulls? I ended up using Sharpies to color my white zonkers, and used regular eyes and Clear Cure Goo over those. Haven't used any of the flies I have tied yet. I also used a bit of lead thread to weight my zonker flies a bit.

Great looking work.

I ordered from Cabelas for the heads and the Zonker materials off of Ebay. You order the head according to the size of hook you are going to use and the eye to fit the head.

As with any new fly, I always do some tying and figure out other things to add to make a better looking fly. I have added just a small amount of wire wrapped around the hook, just want to sink these slowly. I will make more to sink a little faster. I plan on using these next week on the Neuse and surrounding area for speckled trout and red drum. Also still have to use the shrimp flies I made last month.

I like those a lot. Looks like they'll have a ton of wiggle.
