Yeah, Cedar Point is tiny. Maybe real early 3 of our boats could get in. Island Harbor would be good for 3-6, then Shell Rock could probably handle the rest.

Assuming we can all get in the water we might think out of the box about socializing after we fish. Maybe rafting up somewhere in the afternoon and doing a floating picnic. We used to do that at the end of a poker run on the Potomac. It was pretty nice. Just a thought .... I'll volunteer to grill dogs and burgers :)

There's plenty of islands all around us. But just rafting up and "walking the boats" is pretty cool. And I was talking about grilling on the boat. :) Just pass them on down the line! Arrggh!

Rafting works good, but land is fine too. It's just that if you raft up then you don't have to worry about anchoring off a beach, making arrangements with the owner, etc. Also, if families are coming the kids love it if you've got 10 or 15 boats rafted up together.

With this group we'll come up something that works. That was just a suggestion from past experience with similar-sized groups. The good thing about this outing is that it shouldn't be as rowdy as a poker run. :)

10-4 BigE....:):) I;'m thinking maybe Mayo on the sandwiches and it got hot later...??

Sounds good...but alll the islands around the ICW by Shell Rock are open and belong to the Corp of Engineers basically..spoils islands..

I have seen lots of folks camp and cooking out on these islands...just find a spot with some trees and
put a stake in the ground claming it as ours for the day....maybe a RED X FLAG:):)

Rafting sounds interesting but the traffic along the ICW is tough...pull out to the mouth
of Queens Creek and there is enough water to float the boats...

I don't know much about the Morehead areas so can't open any suggestions there....

Don't forget the kayaks guys, but if that is a problem, with so many people invovled, I could take my piece of junk power boat. It is great for the skinny water in the Queen, if that is where the majority want to go. Yaks could put in at the Queens Creek bridge or at the pay ramp near the ICW. I'm game for most anything. I just want to go with the Red X Anglers anywhere. I may have to hitch a ride on a larger power boat.

Scott - if we rafted it would definitely be in a larger backwater off the ICW, like behind Dudley's or on up or down the ICW. Good point about the yaks.

Worry about parking and what to do with a large group is a good problem to have. :) I'm diggin' it.

Yes the problem we're going to have is parking and launch fees if any. Cedar point is too small there is only a couple dozen parking spaces total. Island harbor is $10 to launch and can handle fifty or so, etc. etc.
Now:
the ramp at the end of Front street in Beaufort has a large parking lot and more parking along the parallel street. From there it's a short run to the cape, harkers Island and out to sea and your in back sound. No fee.
Shell rock has a good parking lot and your close to a lot of great water from there. No fee.
I would vote for:
early April - Beaufort - Front street ramp
late April - Shell Rock landing provided Peirman can join us otherwise anywhere else.
I have had my say and I will go with the majority..

BT - you're correct on the capacities. We may need to work with conservative "budget figures" of what will be left on a weekend morning in April around here. All those lots fill up quick.

One option is, if we target the area we're going to fish, then people can target the launches that are close and meet at the target area.

The more we discuss this I think my plan will be to put in at Island Harbor if we meet anywhere between Beaufort and Shell Rock. I'd rather navigate the ICW than some of those parking lots. :)

Island Man;
heres an idea for ALL our outings. there are about ten of us here in the neighborhood who get together and fish several times a year. One of us on a rotating basis selects a location on the water and a time to meet there. how each gets there is up to each one.
The last outing was this past Nov. 15 the location was R.R. trestle on the White Oak River at 7:30 am at that time we decided to meet at the Stella ramp at 2;00 for lunch. From there each one went their own way, either back to fishing or home.
Not trying to dictate anything just offering a suggestion

Im sorry scott, when he said put on mayo, think I may have accidently sprayed on some gulp crab spray. :D

i would think the tar and pamlico will be real dirty if we have the rains early in april. I think it will be real disapointing. I'm with tim, i think we should fish somewhere near the coast. I dont care where it is, I'll make the trip from VA to SC line its only another trip for me!! The saltier the better. I'd like to see a trip to the topsail to carolina beach beach area, the weather should be real nice and camping might be on the menu, or a cheap motel.
