Dumb question about gold spoons.......

First off, I am the essence of a lazy fisherman. 95% of the time I only have two lures on me when drifting along in a kayak. I can usually be caught with a 17MR drifting along behind me waiting for the clicker to go off, while i'm tossing a DOA shrimp at the banks, all while having the native seat in a fully reclined position ;). I keep it that simple and it usually works with very little hassle or work on my part (did I mention lazy?). For some odd reason a weedless johnsons gold spoon looked appealing to me today in the tackle shop, I suppose someone has mentioned in the past it is a good drum lure. So I picked one up without any knowledge about em beyond that. So how do you guys work these spoons for drum? Just a slow steady wobble? Occasional fall? Use a trailer or no? Help a fella out that is waking up from a two lure coma, lol.

Thanks in advance for any tips

Well, I'm sure Breadman can give you the low down on the Gold Spoons but I can tell you they do work for Red Drum. Simple to use since you just cast out and retiree it back. When we seen Drum we just casted past them and reeled the lure to the fish and they would hit it. The last few Red Drum trips that I went on we only used two lures. Top water and Gold Spoon.

I saw those Johnson spoons but the hook looks like it would rust in two after 1 trip to the salt. I did pick up a Mepps 1/2 oz gold spoon with a saltwater treble on it but the thing has no swivel so its line twist city. Is it just common knowledge to tie a small swivel 12 inches in front of the spoon or what??

A good rinse with freshwater immediately after getting home goes a long ways in keeping your lures from rusting. I have Johnson spoons that are several years old with countless trips under their belt.

The are like any bait have to find what the fish want that particular day. I usually start out with a slow steady retrieve and then adjust as needed. Speed up, slow down, let it fall to bottom and jerk it just have to keep changing until you find what they want. No trailer is more productive for me as I feel the trailer messes up the action of the spoon.

I always have a rod with one tied on and it is my go to search bait or when nothing else seems to be working.
