Last Friday I drove over Lake Hickory and the OMP in Granite Falls. Both were muck. Worse than I have seen them since I have moved down here about 6 years ago. With that I figured I would have to play the waiting game to get on the water and catch some fish.
Tuesday one of my co-workers text me a couple of pictures. One large spotted bass and one nice largemouth taken using jigging spoons on Norman. She went with her dad and did pretty well. I fished with her dad a few years ago on Norman but haven't made the trip there myself. To be honest, the lake kind of scared me with its size and such for my little 14 foot boat.
With clear water and reports of fish being caught I finally broke down and made a trip to Lake Norman. I got details from my co-workers dad and launched out of Little Creek. Didn't get skunked but didn't really find the fish that they did. Caught 1 spot about 13 inches on a swim bait and a perch that I should have used for bait (2-3 inches) on a jigging spoon. Called her pops after getting off the water to give him a report and he is out on the lake doing pretty good. I guess you have to know how to find the fish. All in all I was happy to get out, catch a couple of fish, not drown, or get lost. I will have to try again soon!
